If she’s successful, Wozniacki, 33, would join a short list of mothers who have reached the finals of a grand slam, or won. But the rule limits how many grand slams players can enter, something that tennis pro Taylor Townsend of Chicago would like to see changed. No matter what level of income a player earns, the training required to compete and win at the elite level in tennis is intense. “It’s certainly hard enough to win a grand slam without having a child going, ‘Mom, when are you coming back?’ ” Stubbs told CNN. “Serena … I think she wanted to win the grand slam as a mom more than anything,” she said.

The Wimbledon title is the grand slam she wants more than any other, but for the second successive year, Jabeur had to settle for the runners up trophy. Asked what the Princess of Wales told her in that moment, Jabeur told reporters: “Same thing after last year: to encourage me to be strong, to come back and win a grand slam, win a Wimbledon. The last unseeded woman to reach a Wimbledon final was Billie Jean King in 1963. Playing in her second grand slam final, the 24-year-old Czech played brilliantly on the grass and her variety of shots got the better of the sixth seed Jabeur. I think it was the most impossible grand slam for me to win, so I didn’t even think of it.

After all the hard work she put in to beat six rivals, including four Grand Slam champions, Jabeur had stood on the cusp of becoming the first Arab and first African woman to win a Grand Slam title. Luckily four-time major winner Kim Clijsters, who had lost her first four Grand Slam finals, was waiting in the wings to hug the distraught 28-year-old and offer her hope that her time will come. "We were crying together at the locker room," Jabeur told reporters. "Definitely this match, last year's match, the final of the U.S. Open, will teach me how to win these finals. Hopefully I will be like the others that failed a couple of times to do it and it (the win) will come after.

She was already the third-youngest player to reach the third round of Wimbledon in the Open Era after Kim Clijsters in 1999 and then Gauff four years ago. Andreeva told reporters after her win that she was “just a normal teenager, normal girl,” and also revealed she still had to do schoolwork. I think she was impressed also to pass the quallies and to win the slam at 18. Andreeva (right) shakes hands with Potapova after her win. "That's a very different person now, I can tell you that much," Eubanks said when asked about his earlier view of playing on grass. Clijsters, a Wimbledon singles semi-finalist in 2003 and 2006, sympathised with Eubanks' frustrations and suggested that, among other things, he focus on daily footwork exercises. "Hey, if she asks, she's going to get it," said world number 43 Eubanks. "Obviously I think the vast majority of the crowd out there today was supporting Cam, rightfully so," said Eubanks. If I have to keep doing this, I could try to find something else to do with my time'," said Eubanks.

CNN —For the second time in as many months, Mirra Andreeva has reached the third round of a grand slam – well before her 17th birthday. Women’s Tennis Suddenly Has a Big(ish) Three

And yet something has been happening with this group lately in the rivalry-starved women’s game — something that could all come together in a glorious rumble during the next two weeks at the French Open. The first of the three to play at Roland Garros, Sabalenka, started her tournament with a win over Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine in a match tinged with wartime bitterness. Ever since Ashleigh Barty of Australia retired while atop the rankings in March 2022 at age 25, Swiatek, Rybakina and Sabalenka have been hogging nearly all of the most prestigious trophies. Swiatek has been among the most outspoken critics of Russia’s invasion, helping to raise millions of dollars to support relief efforts in Ukraine. Rybakina and Sabalenka hail from the two countries perpetrating the war, as Kostyuk reminded everyone Sunday.
Anna Bright of the Ranchers returns a shot during a group play Major League Pickleball match against Mad Drops Pickleball Club at Pickle & Chill on October 15, 2022 in Columbus, Ohio. Major League Pickleball announced Thursday the cable channel will broadcast the league's premier level tournament semifinals and finals in Mesa, Arizona, and will make all matches of the tournament available for streaming. The longtime Tennis Channel executive said pickleball has already seen a very natural overlap with existing tennis sponsors. He noted that during MLP professional matches, the ball is in action about 40% of the time, compared with professional tennis matches at 16%. Adding pickleball matches to its streaming offerings means beefing up content at a time when linear television is stagnant, at best.
